Book Description Soft cover. Condition: New. 3rd Edition, 2nd Printing. BRAND NEW Copy. T'ai-Shang Kan-Ying P'ien is attributed to Lao Tze (fl 6th century BC), the lengendary founder of Taosim and traditional author of Tao-te-Ching. This edition by Daisetz Teitaro Suzuki and Paul Carus (1852 - 1919) was first published in 1906; this copy is a 1994 reprint. Published with parallel Chinese ideographs carry literal translations. The frontispiece, by Keichyu Yamada, has been inadvertently printed in reverse. The text and illustrations of this verbatim translation is based on that of the scribe Lai Ho Nien of Kwei Ping. The original text is corrupt, containing some tales datable to the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), virtually a thousand years after Lao Tze's time. Neverthess, the book remains a rich repository of popular Taoist beliefs. Other translations of the volume include that by Stanislas Julien into French and then from French to English by Robert K. Douglas, and, later by James Legge. Seller Inventory # 003129
